Linda Svilāne
I moved to Valencia in 2007 – actually I made the move and visited the city for the first time on the same day. I had no one waiting for me here, I didn´t speak any Spanish, I was desperate to find my new home (meanwhile my life was packed in the car), and I didn’t have enough savings to take things slow. Eventually it all worked out well – now Valencia has been my home for years and I´m in love with this city!
As I have experienced moving here myself, I completely understand how frustrating, time consuming and stressful things can become if you do everything on your own, with no help, in a completely new city. For expats in Valencia the good news is that you don´t have to be a warrior from action films who fights alone, there is another way – ask for guidance and assistance, and actually enjoy the beginning of your new life in Valencia!
I hold a degree in Law and Master’s degree in Human rights, Democracy and International Justice. Although I do not perform as human right´s lawyer and activist anymore, I strongly support human rights values and stand against discrimination based on gender, race, origin, sexual orientation or any other grounds, enhance environmental sustainability and back animal protection.
I am socially very active – I have organised international sports events and intercultural activities, which have given me invaluable experience and lots of personal connections. So as a result, here I am – positive, active and willing to make your move to Valencia much easier!

Jānis Melderis
More than ten years ago, after having lived in different countries, I chose Valencia as my home as it had all the best qualities one could wish for in a city. My personal experience and the fact I speak four languages fluently – English, Spanish, Russian and Latvian, allow me to better understand cultural differences and to offer the best solutions to overcome any barriers our clients could face when relocating themselves.
Although I hold a degree in political studies, I have professional experience in several fields such as event management, public relations and marketing campaigns. I also have an administrative background in the construction and welding industries. During the last few years my professional trajectory has been focused on research and analysis of different marketing strategies such as SEO, business optimisation and growth. Apart from that, I´ve consulted on several start up projects and have provided IT solutions to various local businesses.
I am an avid squash player and also head coach for the Ladies Squash Club of Valencia. The sport of squash has been my hobby for many years, and has helped me greatly to develop an extended network of connections in all kind of business areas here in Valencia. Squash has also taught me to work hard and to always give my best to reach my goals.

Zanda Svilāne
For more than a decade, I have called Valencia my home. I arrived here with an engineer’s degree and a passion for improvisation and drama, which allows me to use both my technical curiosity and creativity.
With no Spanish and no experience of the life and culture here, the journey was an uphill struggle but along the way I have learnt some great life lessons. Although the learning wasn´t always easy, the realisation that it was possible was encouraging.
What do I want to share with you?
My knowledge, experiences and the stories I’ve collected from all those years while I was settling in to Valencia by myself and making this beautiful city my home. It has become a place where I don´t feel like a foreigner anymore.
Before joining “YES Valencia” I worked in an event and seminar organisation company located here in Valencia. It has taught me not only excellent formal Spanish but also the ability to deal with unpredictable situations. Often unavoidable, these situations can crop up unexpectedly, especially when it comes to dealing with Spanish bureaucracy or cultural differences.
Additionally, I have found that being in a close-knit team has made me realise how lucky I am that I don´t always have to sort things out on my own! And neither you have to.
I am fluent in Spanish, English, Latvian, Russian and my greatest ability is to look for solutions or, when it seems hopeless, create them. The positivity, reliability and genuine will to help others has made my work enjoyable and has connected me with remarkable people who make Valencia a better place.
